Republicons

Anyone remember a time when everyone referred to the "Democratic Party"? Sometime in the Reagan years, Republicons started referring to the "Democrat Party" (cf Wikipedia). William Safire wrote a Times piece on this in October 1984. Republicans -- afraid of the obvious connotations of "democratic party" -- pressed the alternative. For years, a timid, pathetic, docile news media has obeyed.

In keeping with Republicon newspeak, I suggest we cease the common term "Republican" and start using a term with a connotation more appropriate to the behavior -- "Republicon". A party which has for thirty years (or more, depending on how you count) played on the basest fears of Americans, lied, thieved, and committed some of the most heinous crimes against humanity in the decades since World War 2.
